If marketing your business feels like a never-ending guessing game, you’re not alone.
You start with great intentions—maybe even a burst of energy—but a few weeks later, you’re back to wondering what to post, second-guessing your content, or feeling invisible online. Let’s change that so you have marketing that actually feels good (and gets results).
Here’s the truth most business owners aren’t told: You don’t need to be everywhere. You need to be strategic. And have a clear plan.
Marketing isn’t about chasing trends, dancing on camera (unless you want to!), or trying to mimic what younger or trendier entrepreneurs are doing. It’s about getting clear on your message, your audience, and your strengths—and building a plan around that. Doesn’t that sound good?
Let’s break that down into some real steps for you to step into marketing that actually feels good (and gets results):
1. Know What You’re Trying to Achieve
It sounds simple, but many business owners skip this. Are you trying to grow your audience? Sell a new offer? Book out your calendar with 1:1 clients? Each of those goals requires a different marketing approach.
I took a really cool marketing class. It was amazing and I was excited to use what I was taught. But I kept dragging my feet. It wasn’t until I realized why. The instructor (amazing as she is), kept pushing what to post on social media and to look at what she has been doing. And so I did. I liked it BUT I didn’t want to be doing that. Hence the feet dragging.
It then occurred to me, I’m not a thirty-something (ok, so that wasn’t a big revelation) and I don’t want to be doing thirty-something postings. My audience is older, late 40s, early fifties and they wouldn’t resonate with it even if I did.
Aha! My clarity big and bright showing up and making me feel so much better.
Clarity before content. If you’re unclear on your objective, your content won’t drive the right results—no matter how consistent you are.
2. Focus on the Right People
Marketing isn’t about reaching everyone. It’s about connecting deeply with the right people. That means knowing exactly who you want to serve, what they struggle with, and how they’ll recognize you as their solution.
Think of your marketing as a conversation with one person—your ideal client—not a broadcast to a crowd.
Re-read #1 and how I realized if I focused on what other younger marketers and business owners are doing, I wouldn’t be focusing on my people. Therefore, making it harder not easier.
3. Choose Strategies That Fit YOU
If you love talking, maybe video or podcasts are your sweet spot. If you enjoy writing, maybe thoughtful posts or emails feel more natural. When your marketing aligns with your natural strengths, it becomes something you can actually stick with.
Consistency comes from ease. You’re more likely to follow through when the process feels like a fit—not a fight.
I love to write like I am having a conversation with you. I also like to shoot my videos (when I do them) the same way. You’ll notice I pause as if I’m waiting for a reply. It’s just what fits me.
4. Create a Simple, Repeatable System
You don’t need 20 content ideas every month. You need 3–5 strong themes that speak to your audience’s needs—and a system to repurpose and rotate them across your platforms.
Each month I choose a theme. April has been marketing. And if you go back to my blogs, articles and posts over the month, you’ll see that theme front and center.
A clear, sustainable marketing rhythm makes everything feel lighter and more doable.
If you’re tired of winging it, feeling invisible, or overthinking every post… it’s time for a different approach.
This is exactly why I created Master Your Marketing Now—a hands-on class for service-based women business owners (especially those 40 & 50+) who are ready to market with clarity, confidence, and simplicity.
