Most women entrepreneurs I coach don’t start their business because they love spreadsheets. On the positive side, they start because they want to serve, create, and live with freedom. Ultimately, that freedom lies in why knowing your numbers changes everything.
So when you avoid looking at your income, expenses, and profit, you’re operating in the dark — and that’s where doubt, fear, and inconsistency thrive. To begin with, you second-guess your pricing. You don’t know if your marketing is working. You’re always busy but never quite sure where the money is going.
But here’s the hard truth: If you don’t know your numbers, you don’t fully own your business. Sometimes fear and doubt can hold you back from knowing your numbers.
Knowing your numbers gives you clarity, control, and confidence — and that’s what turns a business owner into a CEO.
Here’s where to begin:
1. Know Your Real Monthly Revenue and Expenses
Pull out your bank statements. Get honest. What came in last month — and what went out? No excuses, no justifying, just facts. Awareness is power. This practice alone will help you spot where money is leaking and where it’s flowing.
Didn’t bring in enough money, that could be a marketing problem or an invoicing problem. Just notice what is actually happening in your business right here and now.
2. Set a Profit Goal, Not Just a Sales Goal
We all love those big money months. But what matters even more? How much you keep. Set a profit goal that supports your personal needs, savings, and business growth. That number becomes your guiding star — and your business starts working for you, not the other way around.
Remember no one ever walked into another business raising their hand saying “Here I am, I’ll work for free.” You need to be paying yourself for the work you do in your business. And accordingly, if you aren’t cause someone else is covering your expenses, well, let’s just say perhaps you shouldn’t have a business because the business isn’t working.
3. Track One Key Metric Every Week
Choose one number that’s tied directly to your income — like leads generated, calls booked, or payments collected. Check in every week. What you track, you improve. This isn’t about perfection — it’s about consistency.
My clients track their income daily. It helps them to see where the influx is and where the gaps are. It’s a very honest tool. You always know whether what you have been doing is working or not.
Stepping into this kind of financial clarity changes everything. You stop guessing AND spinning. You start making powerful, data-backed decisions that support the business and life you truly want.
Numbers don’t lie. And when you know them, you lead from truth.
