From Producer to CEO: How Jennifer Halteman Is Building a Business That Runs Without Her
An empowering interview on leadership, growth, and creating a well-oiled machine for success.
One of my favorite things is sitting down with real business owners who are in the thick of building something powerful — navigating their business, making strong moves, and figuring out how to step fully into leadership.
Recently, I had the pleasure of interviewing Jennifer Halteman, Insurance Agent/Owner of Jennifer Halteman Insurance Agency LLC, a 15-year veteran in the insurance industry who is now making the transition from high-performing producer to confident CEO. Her journey is packed with lessons that any service-based business owner can relate to — especially if you’re ready to lead at a higher level and create a business that doesn’t rely on you for every little thing.
Here are some of the golden nuggets from our conversation.
On Balancing Business and Life: The Work-From-Home Reality
Kim:
Jennifer, let’s start with a little behind-the-scenes peek. How’s life balancing work-from-home with managing contractors and family life?
Jennifer:
(Laughs) Oh, it’s definitely a juggle, Kim. There are the realities of working remotely versus having a dedicated office space. There are clear benefits — flexibility being one — but there are also challenges, especially when you’re managing a team and have kids at home. It’s a constant dance between structure and flexibility.
Jennifer’s Journey: From Producer to CEO
Kim:
Let’s dive into your journey. Can you share a little about your background and your transition into your current CEO role?
Jennifer:
Absolutely. I’ve been in the insurance business for about 15 years now. I started as a producer, really getting to know the ins and outs of serving clients. Over time, I began stepping into more of a CEO and manager role, and that shift has been both exciting and challenging. The hardest part? Finding the right people, training them well, and building a team that can carry the vision forward. But it’s also the most rewarding work I’ve done.
The Vision: Building a Business That Runs Without Her
Kim:
What’s your vision for your business as you continue to grow into this CEO role?
Jennifer:
My vision is really clear: I want to sustain our current success while empowering my team to become “mini-me’s” — people who can run the day-to-day operations confidently and effectively. That way, I can focus on leading the business strategically from the top. My ultimate goal is to create a business that runs like a well-oiled machine, with or without me being directly involved every single day. That’s where true freedom and scalability come in.
The Power of Team First: Jennifer’s Key Advice
Kim:
You mentioned finding the right people, training them and building a team that can carry the vision forward, what is your key advice when it comes to the power of team?
Jennifer:
Yes, I suggest that building an effective team needs to come earlier in the process. From my experience, you can’t really scale or lead strategically until you’ve got the right people in the right seats.
