It’s easy to make more money

Don’t believe me?  Well, you wouldn’t be the only one.

If you have been reading my blogs lately, you have noticed a pattern from me.  It’s been a lot about money.  That’s because a lot of my clients — and even a survey I did — told me that people want to make and keep more money!

Not surprising because most men and women struggle with their relationship with money in their personal lives, so it’s no wonder that they would struggle with it in their business lives as well.

With that knowledge, I decided to do a FREE webinar training series for you this month.  The only thing you need to do is listen to them and then take action.  That’s it.

They are super short.  Nothing you have to sign up for, calendar in or be on time for.  It’s all for you at your leisure! Though I will warn you… you will want to make time for them and also to implement what you learn.

I’m making it easy, just watch for the link in my social media posts or keep reading my weekly blog where you’ll find the links for each training.  Hint:  you may want to follow me on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn so you won’t miss anything.

Today’s first training is an introduction to the 5 Key Money Areas that cause you to struggle with your relationship with money.

Here is a brief overview of the 5 Key Money Areas:

  1. Forgiveness – why it’s important to forgive and who to forgive.
  2. Boundaries – how not having boundaries causes a lot of indecision, concern and worry.
  3. Action – when you know exactly what you are doing, you do it.
  4. Empowerment – embrace that you are the one in control of your destiny.
  5. Mindset – understand that your attitude, thinking and approach can make or break you.

Are You Positively Positive?

I just read one of Tony Robbins books.  This quote really got me thinking:  “The difference between acting badly or brilliantly is not based on your ability, but on the state of your mind and/or body in any given moment.”

I gave this a lot of thought.  I realized that when I’m tired, I’m cranky and things go oh so wrong.  When I’m hungry, I’m rushing and I’m very short with myself and others.  When I’m not at my optimal, I’m angry, frustrated, stressed out and nothing I do ever goes right.

Can you relate?  So then, what’s a person to do?  The obvious physical actions are: eat and sleep.  But what about our mindset around those actions?  We all know that we should take care of ourselves better, but do we?  I know of more and more people who put off taking care of themselves, eating well, exercising, sleeping, and down time all in lieu of working more, doing more, being more.

A wise woman once told me “I have to take care of my body; I take it everywhere I go.”  So true.  Also true is that our body takes us everywhere we go.  Well then, since that is the case, how can we better take care of ourselves so that we are optimally running all the time?

As business owners, what if we were to change our mindset to one that is supportive and loving of ourselves and others?  What do you suppose would happen?  The right mindset when it comes to running a business really can be the difference between a successful business and a failing or struggling business.

Think about your mindset as a business owner; would you say you have a positive or negative one?  Which is dominant?  Many clients when they first start working with me realize they have a negative attitude.  When they recognize that they are in a negative mindset they can’t believe it.  See, often they can’t even see it.  Ever heard the saying “can’t see the forest through the trees”?  Fortunately, in time they turn it around.

Where might you be holding yourself back?  If you were to shift your mindset from negative to positive, could make a world of difference to your business?

If you are serious about making changes to your own mindset, join my Prosperous Business Mastery Group Mastermind Program where you’ll have lots of opportunities to learn how to change and master your mindset.  For more information click here.

Reach for the Stars!

Young woman pulling bright starsI’d love to pose a question.  What are your thoughts on being realistic?

Many times in my past I was told, “Kim, you need to be realistic.”  And so I would be.  But what did I get?  Lots of nothing.  I never stepped out of my comfort zone.  It wasn’t until I recognized I was a people pleaser that I realized those people — who I was trying to please — were actually holding me back by telling me to be realistic.

So what is realistic anyway? Realistic is defined as sensible, practical, reasonable.

But sometimes you need to not be sensible in order to soar.  Be outrageous and think really big, abandon practical, and embrace what might feel like the impossible.  You need to break from being reasonable, and to be a bit awkward, in order to grow and do new things.

See, being realistic can hold us back.  Abraham-Hicks says that being realistic can root us firmly to where we are.  I truly do not know any person who wants to absolutely, without question, stay where they are.  Everyone wants more in and for their life.

Let’s say you have a goal of being a six-figure business owner and you are currently making $10,000.  If you think “Realistically, can I be a six-figure business owner?” you can easily determine that no, you can’t.  However, if you think “OK, I’m going to go for the moon here and aim for six figures and I’ll do this, this and this to get there” then you have successfully broken free of being realistic!  You allowed yourself to step into a bigger version of yourself and what is in store for you.

Being realistic keeps us in a space where often we do not want to be.  As Jack Canfield says you have to take 100% responsibility for yourself.  So I encourage you to stop being realistic about your life and your goals and go for what you truly want.  When you do that you’ll be thinking what is the best thing that could happen?

I don’t know about you, but I sure enjoy my life more reaching for the moon!

So what do you think?  Post below on my blog or email me at kim@kimravida.com to share!

Okay, I get it.  Sometimes reality does bite.  So if you are unhappy with the reality of your bank account balance and want to have more money to help you reach for the moon and the stars, my Grow Your Money Tree Program is for you.  Click here to find out more!

Truly, it’s ALL an excuse!

I’ve always been interested in making things – life, business, health, etc. – better for myself and for other people.

Over the years I have worked with so many clients — and had lots of friends — who say they are going to make things better in their lives.  Things such as lose weight, get healthier, get a new job, save more money, stop spending, do a household budget, take a vacation, have more time to spend with kids, parents, family, friends.  Yet, they don’t follow through on what they say.  Why?

What I realized is that man, there are a lot of excuses out there!  Here are some of the things that not only my clients and others are saying, but I’ve said too:

  • I can’t.
  • I have no time.
  • I have too much to do.
  • I don’t have enough money.
  • I need to learn how to do x first.
  • The weather is too cold/hot/whatever (yes, I’ve heard this).

Well, let me tell you exactly what these are…these are just excuses – and we all make them.  Because when we truly want to do something, we’ll do it.  When we really, really want something, we find a way to make it happen.

Why, then, do we make excuses?

Many of us fool ourselves into thinking it will be hard or we don’t like change or it’s going to take too much time.  And oh yeah, there can be a lot of that “F” word – FEAR!  Fear of lots of things.

Some of us know underneath and down inside, though, that we can’t be trusted to follow through.

Ouch!

For years we have let ourselves down by saying one thing and doing another.  This creates not only a pattern of negativity but also sends a message to our subconscious that we can’t be trusted.  So why bother getting started, we won’t be successful anyway.  Right?  Let’s make it wrong!

Look, we all know people who are successful at whatever they set out to do, so what makes them different?  They trust themselves to do what they say they are going to do… even if it’s hard.

Here are a few tips to break the negative pattern so you can begin to trust yourself, too:

  1. Pick something small to do and when you’ll do it – like walk around the block in the morning or read for ten minutes this evening — and write it down. Then do it!
  2. When you’ve done it…do a happy dance and pat yourself on the back! Yes, reinforcement does work!
  3. Do this for several weeks and then take on bigger goals. Soon you’ll be proving to yourself that you can be trusted.
  4. Enlist the help of a trusted friend or hire a coach to help support you and keep you accountable to yourself. Often, just having an outside source is enough to keep the fire lit through completion.
  5. Keep a journal or list of how you are doing so you can see that yes, indeed, you are following through.

When you finally show yourself that you can be trusted, the sky is the limit!  You’ll be done with excuses and reaching your goals faster and with more joy.

When you do, post below on my blog or email me at kim@kimravida.com to share your success and elation!

Be confident and believe!

Believe You Can You're Halfway There Words Saying QuoteOne thing I realized when I first started to teach was that no matter what, I had to act as if I belonged in front of the room. So even if my inner gremlin was saying to me “Who do you think you are? You have no idea what you’re doing” or “You have no business teaching these people,” I had to put that voice aside and act as if I did belong there and that I did know what I was doing.

Truth be told, it wasn’t always easy. See, even if I made a mistake, I just kept going. I didn’t dwell on it in my head and I proceeded on. I acted like the expert… and well, I was. I was the one standing in the front of the room presenting my knowledge and my material. It was probably one of the hardest things I ever did in my life. But it was one of the most important things, too.

I was able to do this because I had learned that the number one secret to success is not what you know, what you do or how you do it… the secret to success is in your head. Your mindset. If you think you can, you can. If you think you can’t, well… you can’t.

Much has been written on mindset over the years. We have quotes from Henry Ford and Eleanor Roosevelt and the story of The Little Engine That Could, and yet we continue to talk ourselves out of success. We don’t give ourselves the credit to be confident. We believe we are less worthy others.

Oh boy, I seem to have gotten on a soap box. Well, while I am here, I might as well keep going.

I’ve taught numerous classes over the years and worked with many people in groups and individual settings. One thing I observe over and over is that there is a point where people will take themselves out of the game. They decide that they can’t do whatever it is they are asked to do… or even what they want to do. It truly isn’t that they can’t physically or mentally accomplish it; instead, they take themselves out psychologically. Their mindset is that they aren’t good enough or nor worthy.

But I always know that they can. I’ve seen countless expressions of amazement, astonishment and sheer joy when they do what they formerly believed they could not. I’ve shared in the tears and laughter when they realize they are greater than they once believed they were.

So the next time you think “I can’t do that”, I invite you to act as if you can and then do it. Because once you realize you can, there will be no stopping you.

Here are a few suggestions for you as you embark on your personal success track:

  1. Act as if. Act as if you can do or do know what you need to know in order to get it done.  Give yourself a pep talk. Simply saying “I can do this” or “I’ve got this” will help.
  2. Visualize yourself successful. Close your eyes and take a deep breath. Visualize yourself being successful, whatever that is for you. Put yourself in the place you are going and see yourself standing tall and confident and acting from a place of empowerment.
  3. Make a list of your strengths. List those things which you know you are good at and read them daily. By keeping your strengths front and center, it will be easy to step into them any time you need to.

Truly, to be successful you have to be the greatest version of you that you already are!  You already are strong, confident and successful; you might just need to remind yourself of that.

Profitability, you got it?

pie chartAs a business owner, how do you define ‘profit’?  Do you take your sales minus your expenses and then see what is left over?  If you do, you aren’t alone; there are many business owners who do just that.  It’s the way we have been taught, programmed and told to do.  But there is another way.  Say what?  Yes, there is another way and I’m happy to share that with you here.

I work with an amazing system called Profit First.  It was created by Mike Michalowicz and since being certified by him, I’ve helped numerous business owners make money in their business and — even better — take money for themselves from their business.  Now I’m not talking about “Oh, look there’s money in the account, I think I’ll write myself a check.”  I’m talking about seriously planning to make a profit and paying yourself a salary, all while you are covering your business expenses and your taxes.

The Profit First System is exactly as it sounds, take your profit first!  We so often pay everyone else and then we live off of what is left (or not live in some cases, I kid you not).  Well, this system flips all of that and has you calculating your profit first and paying yourself a regular salary.  You wouldn’t accept a job interview by saying “By the way, I’m here to work for free,” so why should you work for free in your own company?  If nothing else, you gotta eat, right?

The first step of the Profit First System is that you establish four accounts:

  1. Profit Account
  2. Owner’s Pay Account
  3. Tax Account
  4. Operating Expenses Account

I want to stress here that you want four separate accounts.  You don’t want to have all your money living in one account because that’s one sure-fire way to end up with more month leftover than money.

The next step is to determine the percentages that you’ll be putting into those separate bank accounts regularly.  Now the trick here is to look closely at your operating expenses and make sure that you aren’t paying for things that you don’t need to run your business.  There may be things you think you need that you truly don’t, and guess what?  Once you get rid of those, you’ll have more money for your profit and owner’s pay.

What if you could put more money in your pocket?  Sounds way better, doesn’t it!

My clients go through an analysis so they can see exactly where they are bleeding money and also where they need to put money in order to have a healthy business.  That’s what this system is all about; creating a healthy business that thrives not just survives.

If you are interested in learning a lot more about this Profit First theory, read Mike’s book.  Here is my link on Amazon http://amzn.to/1Lbx1kq for you to pick up your own copy.  And if you feel you need or want help with getting a profit first, let me know because I am a Certified Profit First Professional!  Feel free to send me a private email at kim@kimravida.com.

Secret to being successful in business

mindset word cloudI’ve been working with an amazing group of business owners in my Prosperous Business Mastery Group Program.  Each and every one has been stepping up and shining the light on themselves.  One of the things that has been paramount for them is to get really clear about what they want.  It’s very exciting to see what they have been creating in only a short time!

When we are unclear about our end result, it’s hard to know what to do in order to get there.  Therefore, being crystal clear about what we want, why we want it, and what we will do to get it will make all the difference in the world.

Since there already has been much written about steps to take to reach our goals, I want to touch on something that most people don’t know about — or if they do, they don’t utilize well.  It’s called MINDSET.  In business, having a positive, can-do, will-do mindset is one of the secrets to success.

Just what is mindset?  Mindset is:  a state of mind, frame of mind, attitude, approach, way of thinking, outlook.  And guess what?  Many people have a negative mindset.  A positive mindset, on the other hand, is always a work in progress.

Take a moment and think about someone who you think is successful; someone you would like to emulate.  Got it?  Okay, now think about their actions, their words, how they do things, what they do, what they say, how they present themselves, and how they conduct themselves.  What do you notice?  Do you notice someone who is confident and sure of themselves?  How about joyful, peaceful, engaging, exuberant, solid?  Someone with a positive mindset is all of those and more.

They especially do not make excuses, they do what they said they would do, they take chances, they get things done, they get up early and stay late, they never say “I can’t”, and they look for solutions and opportunities.  They don’t allow obstacles, other people or anything to get in their way.

A great mindset can propel you forward in your life and business, while a bad mindset can make your life miserable.  It’s up to you.  Do you want misery or do you want success?

For some people, they generally have a good mindset but they allow things to get in the way and throw them off course.  Either way, having a negative mindset or one that allows you to get thrown off course will — without a doubt — hold you back, make things more difficult for you and lead to overall unhappiness.

I really want you to master your mindset.  Here are several questions to help you mind your mindset so that you experience all the success you want!

  • Is it your thought?  One thing I discovered about myself a long time ago was that I had thoughts that weren’t mine.  Well, they were in my head but they weren’t my thoughts.  I realized that I had been programmed by comments and opinions from other people.  I’d hear someone say “Look at that person; they aren’t a good person.”  So the next person I saw who closely resembled that person, I’d automatically think “Well, that person isn’t a good person.” But was that true?  Probably not!  So when you have a thought, question it, challenge it.  Is it your real opinion or one of a colleague, friend or parent?  Make sure you are thinking your thoughts and not someone else’s.
  • Does thinking this way help me move forward?  If the answer is yes, fantastic.  If no, it’s time to question your thinking.  If you think “I’m not good enough to do this” or “I have no business doing this” ask yourself why you think that.  Nine times out of ten it’s because you might not feel confident in what you are about to do and/or you need additional info.  So what is a different thought that you can have?  “I am good enough and will learn how to do this” or “I know exactly why I want to do this and will absolutely make it happen.” Consciously swap your negative thoughts for positive ones.
  • What am I afraid of?  Often a negative mindset is driven by fear.  Fear of failure, fear of being rejected, fear of losing love.  (I could go on but I think you get what I’m saying.)  What are you afraid of?  Lots of times your mindset is directly related to that fear.  I once had a client who was afraid to talk to his wife about money; he had made a few mistakes and was afraid she wouldn’t love him anymore.  This negative mindset lead to much stress and anxiety… and you know what that lead to, an even more negative mindset.  We walked through an exercise for this and once he realized what he was afraid of he was able to let it go.

In the end, a negative mindset is destructive!  However, these tips will get you started on the road to changing your ‘stinking thinking’ for something more positive, enlightening and constructive for you.

I’d love for you to share your experience with your mindset, what you did to change it and what results you got.  Feel free to send me a personal email or post below here on my blog!

Thoughts – Exactly What Do They Do?

happyA penny for your thoughts.  Have you ever heard that phrase?  My mom used to say that when I was little…  and being quiet.  Some people still ask that whenever someone they are with is being silent and reflective.  Maybe they use it as a conversation starter.

Did you know that our thoughts create our destiny?  Well, they do.  Are you are positive or negative thinker by default?  If you are a negative thinker, you more than likely see all the things that are wrong with your life.  On the flip side, if you are a positive thinker you probably see all the good things.

You know all about the optimist and the pessimist thing.  The glass is half full or half empty.  But be that as it may, it is true you are what you think.  If you think you are stupid, well then… and if you think you are smart, well then…

There’s a quote by Mahatma Gandhi, “A man is but the product of his thoughts – what he thinks, he becomes.” It’s a great example to make my point.

If you do not like where you are going in your life and would like to change it, begin with changing your thoughts.  Oh, easier said than done, right?  Only because you think it is.  So let’s start there.

In a recent movie I watched The Iron Lady, with Merrill Streep playing Margaret Thatcher, she quotes:

“Watch your thoughts, they become words.
Watch your words, they become actions.
Watch your actions, they become habits.
Watch your habits, they become your character.
Watch your character, it becomes your destiny.”

Here are four steps to change your thoughts for good!

  1. Change your thoughts.  Where our thoughts go, our energy flows.  If you are in constant negative self-talk—telling yourself I can’t do it, I don’t have time, I don’t know what to do or there is too much to handle—that is where your energy will be.  If you turn those thoughts around to positive ones—I can do this, I have plenty of time (secret: this is my #1 go-to phrase that I use myself and teach my clients – and it works!), I know exactly what to do, I can figure out what I don’t know, it’s no big deal or I can handle whatever comes my way—you shift your thoughts and subsequently shift your energy.  Once you start using positive words you will begin to see that forward movement you want.  There is much to be said about the power of positive thinking!
  2. New words lead to new action.  Once you have shifted your thoughts, you will notice how easy it is to get into action.  You will have the confidence to figure out what you need to do to reach your goals.  You will be able to make powerful decisions and choices that support what you want in your life.
  3. New action leads to new habits.  After you make decisions and things start moving on fast and furiously, you will no longer be negatively-focused.  You will have created a healthy habit of being positive and believing you are positively-minded.  These traits will    move you forward on your journey to having the life you want.
  4. New habits lead to an empowered character… and we know where that leads!  Finally, once you are in the practice of using positive self-talk, taking action quickly and forming positive habits, your character not only will be much improved, but others will notice the new you.  You will be well on your way to your destiny and all that you want to have is at your fingertips!

See how just having a new thought can change your destiny?  How cool is that?!  Before reading this you were thinking that life was hard and you felt stuck.  But now you can see how to get into the swing of things to run a profitable business and lead a fabulous life.  When you change the way you think, you create a domino effect in your life.  Again, I repeat, how cool is that?!

I would love for you to share one thing that you experienced by choosing to think positively, please share below!
